Portrait of Absence II

Typically, I craft pieces by personifying chairs and everyday items within the frame. However, for this series, I chose to personify the cross pieces of a window.

I've observed that many Western paintings often confine their compositions within the frame. In contrast, expressions in Japanese art, such as folding screens, hanging scrolls, and fusuma paintings, frequently incorporate external spaces and margins into the work. Embracing this Japanese artistic mindset, I created these paintings.

The landscapes beyond the window are not specific locations, but exist purely in the realm of imagination. Although the 16 pieces collectively represent a large window, each piece is designed to stand alone as well.
